Other Local Canal Events

The Montgomery, Llangollen and Shropshire Union Canals are the focus of events throughout the year organised by local canal groups.  These events include the following:

28th February 2010 - St. Davids Day Walk (one day early)

Organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal, this walk will be from Berriew to Brithdir and return.  Meet at 10-30 am in the car park at Berriew Aqueduct.  Please bring stout footwear as there are fields to cross!  There will be a Welsh themed lunch at the Talbot, Berriew.  Ring Freda on 01938 552817 before 21st February to book lunch.

27th March 2010 -  Litter Pick at Welshpool

Organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal. Please meet 10.30am at Welshpool Town Wharf.  Free refreshments at lunchtime finish. British Waterways will supply all equipment required.  Free parking permit for pickers - see Freda on the morning. For further information please telephone 01938 552817.

24th April 2010 - St. Georges Day Walk

Organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal from Frankton Locks to Queens Head.  Further details to be provided soon.

1st and 2nd May 2010 - Norbury Junction May Bank Holiday Rally

29th - 31st May 2010 - Spring Bank Holiday Lockwind

Organised by the Shropshire Union Canal Society to raise funds to support the restoration of the Montgomery Canal and enhancement of the Llangollen and Shropshire Union canals.  Full details of the event will be provided soon.

31st May 2010 -  Duck Race

Organised by the Welshpool Rotary Club as part of the Welshpool Carnival Fun Day, the Duck Race will take place From Welshpool Town Lock at 4pm.  Money raised will be used to purchase litter bins for the canal towpath at Welshpool.  Please telephone 01938 555046 for more details.

13th June 2010 - Dinghy Dawdle 2010

Organised jointly by the Shropshire Union Canal Society, IWA Shrewsbury and North Wales Branch and the Freinds of the Montgomery Canal, this event is held annualy to highlight the already naviagble but unlinked sections of the Montgomery Canal.  This will be the 25th anniversary of the Dinghy Dawdle.  It will be from Berriew Aqueduct to Welshpool, with full details of the event available soon.

20th to 22nd August 2010 -  Second Annual Lockwind at New Marton Bottom Lock, Hindford

Organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal to support the Maesbury '10 Canal Festival.

10th - 12th September 2010 - Ellesmere Canal Festival
